Perhaps more than any other influence Healing Herbs of the Upper Rio Grande helped keep the herbal traditions of the Spanish Southwest alive and well.
Michael’s Commentary: First published in 1947 and long out of print, I was pleased to have the chance to annotate and update this seminal work on the traditional home remedies of the Spanish Southwest. Working with the publisher Jim Mafchir (we have worked together on all five of these books) and the illustrator Mimi Kamp. This book gave me the chance to edit Mrs. Curtin-Paloheimo’s landmark text, add personal observations (I sold remedios for 15 years in Northern New Mexico), update the botanical nomenclature, add references, a glossary of local Spanish terms, and generally render this classic work more practical for current usage.
