Michael’s Commentary: The classic work from the Bureau of American Ethnology, 1912, treating medicinal and edible plants used by the Dakota, Omaha/Ponca, Winnebago and Pawnee peoples. Gilmore treats 180 plants, and offers 16 pages of tables of names in various languages. This is perhaps the best text of its kind, and was compiled early enough that Gilmore was able to interview and learn from many ageing traditionalists of the plains peoples.
